Port Erin (or Purt Chairn in Gaelic) in the south west is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its wide cove, sandy beach and stunning coastal walks. This would be an ideal destination for the family, for visitors with an interest in sailing or diving, or for those who just wish to relax and soak up the atmosphere. There are thrice-daily trips to the Calf Island off the south coast where the visitor can see the grey seals, sea birds and even, in the midsummer months, catch a glimpse of other visitors to the area – the basking sharks. Port Erin has several pubs that offer lunches, beach-side caf é s and good-quality restaurants. For those who wish to use public transport there is a choice between buses and the vintage steam railway. The Erin Arts Centre is a modern theatre with a variety of shows throughout the year, from classical music to drama.
