Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl and Prestatyn

Llandudno is Wales’ largest seaside resort, located on the north Wales coast.

The Victorian Buildings that dominate the mile long bay has enabled the town to retain the 19th century ambience.   It was the place to stay for the Victorian ‘in-crowd’ – musicians and European royalty were regularly seen shopping along wrought iron and glass verandas of Mostyn Street that are a feature of the shopping district today.  The Liddell family whose daughter was the model for Alice in “Alice in Wonderland” were regular visitors and now you can stay at St Tudnos Hotel which was where the family stayed or the Gogarth Abbey hotel on the quieter West Shore, which they built as their home.

The headland known as the Great Orme dominates the Bay with great views of Snowdonia on a good day.  There are also the only bronze age mines in Europe and rare plant species with intriguing names such as goldilocks aster and spiked speedwell.

The North Wales Theatre, located on the sea front has a range of performances including Welsh National Opera and ‘West End’ style musicals.Llandudno is a good base for exploring nearby Conwy and Betws y Coed a short journey along the scenic Conwy Valley.
